Simultaneous fMRI and EEG recording MBI houses an MR-compatible EEG-recording system (MagLink), which can be used for obtaining integrated EEG and ERP recordings during fMRI scanning. The passive MagLink system provides the ability to record during the pulse sequence without compromising the raw EEG data. Clock synchronisation between MRI and EEG system improves the accuracy of gradient artifact reduction, simplifies the artifact reduction process and allows acquisition using standard sampling rates. Key Specifications: SynAmp2: 64 monopolar, 4 bipolar, 2high-level analog recordings STIM2: stimulus presentation software; SCAN 4.5: data acquisition and artifact removal software; 0-2 KHz bandwidth;Sampling frequency up to 20 KHz; Ability to synchronise recordings with external triggers.
Oculomotor Motor System MBI houses an MR-compatible eye-tracking system, which can be used for recording eye-movements, pupil diameter, and monitoring ocular behavious during fMRI scanning. The MR-compatible eye-tracking system - Eyelink-1000 - consists of a high-speed camera connected to a dedicated host computer, which can sample eyes in real-time with incredibly low inter-sample variability. Oculomotor testing can be performed both inside and outside the MRI scanner. Key Specifications: Sampling Rate: 2000 Hz; Monocular
Accuracy: 0.5º; Average accuracy
Resolution:0.05º RMS; Saccade resolution of 0.25; Real-time Data Access: 3 ms (SD<1.2 ms) @ 500 Hz.
MR Compatible Pulse Oximeter MBI has a Nonin brand fibre-optic MR compatible Pulse Oximeter (Plethysmograph) which can be used to record: pulse rate, pulse waveform and blood oxygen saturation during fMRI scanning. Additionally a hardware interface enables logging of these parameters on a computer during testing. The Pulse Oximeter can also be used in pre-clinical fMRI.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Research Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a noninvasive method used to depolarize or hyperpolarize neurons in the brain. Weak electric currents are induced into the brain using electromagnetic induction, which allows the functioning and interconnections of the brain to be studied. MBI houses a MR-compatible TMS device, which can be used to perform simultaneous fMRI and TMS research or TMS only studies outside the MRI scanner.
Neuropsychological Testing A battery of software tools is available at MBI to conduct neuropsychological testing both inside and outside the MRI scanner. E-Prime, Psychtoolbox, PsychoPy, Experimental Builder, and Matlab are available for researchers to implement and run their experiments. Trigger interfaces are available to synchronize MRI pulse sequences with experimental paradigms. An MR-compatible display screen is available to display stimuli to the participants inside the MRI scanner.
